Thread Name: A song I can't remember...
Subject: A song I can't remember...
Hi there,

This weekend I was lucky enough to attend the Soundpost Singing Weekend in Dungworth near Sheffield. As expected, there were many great singaround with some lovely singers and great, new (to me) songs. I heard a particular song one night and made a point to remember some of the lyrics with the intention of googling them later. As it is, I have completely forgotten almost everything about it, so I thought I'd scatter some clues with hope that maybe some of you mudcatters would be able to help me. However, I realise I haven't provided much information and so won't be too shocked when everyone just draws blanks...

So, the song was about a young girl (of rich heritage I think) and a young man who may have been her Father's servent. her Father didn't want her to marry him and so sends one of them to Ireland... (I think maybe it's her). The servant then finds her and asks to bring her back home (at this point, I thought it was going to be a version of the holland handkerchief). She gets brought home, and as I remember, it's a happy ending (I think perhaps they get married).

Well, I know that's not much to go on, and I know a lot of songs follow the same kind of story line, but I thought I'd throw it out there regardless.

Thanks :)
Sinéad.
