We still have 'coconut shies' here in Norfolk UK. I was at a village fete in Old Buckenham a couple of years ago, and they had one. They also have them in travelling fairs, but we all agree that the coconuts are nailed down in some way, you can NEVER knock them off no matter how hard you throw the ball! There are usually six stands painted blue or red, and the balls are small wooden ones, you get six for a pound, (or sometimes 50p in a village fete.) By the way, at Old Buckenham, they also had 'Bowling for a Pig", and if you won, a local farmer gave you a piglet, already cut into joints and frozen!
