Well, I'm still not sure if this is what was wanted, but one of the paths I followed led me here:

From Mearing Stones: Leaves from My Note-Book on Tramp in Donegal by Joseph Campbell (Dublin: Maunsel, 1911), page 23:

As I walked down thro' Dublin city
At the hour of twelve in the night,
Who should I spy but a Spanish lady.
Washing her feet by candlelight.
First she washed them, and then she dried them
Over a fire of amber coal:
Never in all my life did I see
A maid so neat about the sole!

The same lines are quoted in Judgment: A Play in Two Acts by Joseph Campbell (Dublin: Maunsel & Co., Ltd., 1912), page 26.
