(sigh) ; ) And "tutto il di" is not pronounced the same way as "tutt' il di" any more than   "C'e 'na luna ..." is pronounced the same as "C'e una luna."    When song lyrics call for a contraction, in order to fit the meter/tune, they are routinely written as contractions. (Check out "O Sole Mio," for example. It's full of contractions.)


I've seen the lyrics printed as "... tutt' il di," which corresponds to the way The Gaylords sing the song, and seems also to sound more natural (less awkward).    I just don't want people to think they need to pronounce the final "o" in "tutto," because it's awkward, and the Gaylords don't pronounce it.

You're right, it's not an exact science. And I do hope you'll change the thread title, to be more inclusive, since the discussion and information have moved far beyond my initial query and beyond the Gaylords' recording.
