Felt a bit low yesterday so didn't do much.

It turned out that I had set the trap wrong, so the bait was gone without the gate coming down. I reset it correctly - the instructions on the box are pretty poor, no piccies, but I have a friend who has one and knows. During the day it tripped three times with nothing inside. The last time, well after dark, I just left it. This morning, it looks as if the bait has gone, which is very odd - the wires are very close together, and the bait was jammed into the plate which trips the gate firmly.

I'm going to put tape round the trip mechanism. Calling it a mechanism is a bit of an exaggeration - a thick wire connected to a plate inside the cage has a 90 degree bend and rests gently against a long matching wire which holds up the gate. Too gently. So I think if I put masking tape around the two wires where they touch, it should make it a little less susceptible to a passing breeze, while still being sensitive enough to something tugging at the meat.
