Charmion: I got hit with this at Whitby, a bit over a year ago. After a lot of medical consultation (one guy wanted to scrape my sinuses---a terrifying thought) an ONT diagnosed it as acid reflux. I've been taking meds for that, and have gone through some voice therapy (not too useful) and some voice lessons (more so). I seem to be finally getting over it. We could always start a thread on hoarse whisperers.
