Both The Weirdstone of Brisingamen and The Moon of Gomrath by Alan Garner were originally published by Collins (The Weirdstone was picked up by the company's head, Sir William Collins, who was on the look out for new fantasy novels following on from the recent commercial and critical success of J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings (1954-55) in hardcover and, in paperback, by Puffin Books (the children's wing of Penguin Books)
