There are people around who think that giving a copy of their own CD automatically entitles them to receive a copy of a CD from a performer - seen it happen more than once. Difference is, some people are trying to make a living, at least partially, out of the music and selling their CDs comes into the equation. Whilst they might, for politeness sake, and to avoid upsetting another would be performer, take a proffered CD I can see no reason why they should have to give away one of their own. Gifts should be given without expecting something in return.
