Play nicely, children. There are an awful lot of people who come to sessions/ singarounds/ open mic nights &c. who have yet to hear of EFDSS. Some of them even sing traditional songs, not because they were collected and archived and arranged, but because they learned them from their parents or grandparents. Or someone in the pub. What we need to be doing is to foster environments where the singing of traditional song is not an academic pursuit but an organic process. That's why those of us who run the small clubs around the country keep putting in the effort. It sure as hell ain't for the money, prestige or thanks.
