My solution for similar "helpful features" has been to open a new tab (to the same site, when appropriate) before doing the search.

Obviously there's probably a better method, but I haven't run into the problem.

Google Says "we fixed that in a new update that's available at our home page," but I haven't looked at whether they've also added other "features" I might not want, so I haven't tried it out.
