Paul Theroux's latest book is partially about writer's block. He invents a fabulous woman character and recovers.
I remember seeing a copy of Lincoln's Gettysburg Address covered with corrections by a teacher. Reduced the speech to dull cubed. Beware! I edited papers for publication (technical, scientific) and wrote some myself. Probably destroyed any ability I had for creative writing, so all I can offer is bland like mashed potato without butter and salt.
But maybe- take your subject, make it ridiculous and fantastic- just might loosen the block.
