If you think what you have written is boring and you're asking for help after three and a half pages, the prognosis doesn't look good and maybe you should consider a different project. To a writer, writing should be the most exciting thing he or she does, not a chore that has to be undertaken. It strikes me that you are relatively inexperienced if you've never got beyond one page before, and to undertake artewriting of Dickens is, quite frankly, like deciding to swim the Atlantic when you've never ventured beyond the nursery pool.

Have you considered taking a creative writing course? There you will learn about planning, plot and character construction and development, research, finding your style and much more. I don't think it's possible to teach someone to be a good writer but it is possible to show them how to learn the craft of writing.

It's always worth bearing in mind what Samuel Johnson said when asked to critique a young writer's work: "Your work is both good and original. Unfortuately, the parts that are good are not original and the parts that are original are not good".
