Do you think I could have corrupted all my genalogy files? Or just the ones i opened?

When I read about taking IE 8 off I read that you can't if you have downloaded some pack...not sure if I did ever ...someone else loaded my computer..but I did go to control panel this am and try to remove it and download IE 7 and it stopped and said another version of IE was on computer..I could not find in program list...m
