Thread Name: Frozen Planet - censored for the USA
Subject: RE: Frozen Planet - censored for the USA
"The U.S. isn't opposed to the idea of climate change, but some of our messy companies and highly-paid politicians oppose anything that makes industry better global citizens and reduces profits."
Oh it's more than just politicians and companies.
There are plenty of C.C.deniers throughout the world outside those two groups and even including scientists. However I gather many if not most of those scientists are other than climatologists.
". I suspect that it's not so much that the US has censored it as that the BBC hasn't released it to the US market."
Reading the links CJB provided, the BBC offered the series as 6 progs with the sensitive 7th as an optional extra, and the Discovery Channel turned down the 7th because of "scheduling issues". Sounds like a nasty case of excusitis.
The fact that countries around the world are omitting the last episode and that the BBC has made it an optional extra are at least partly because of perceived sensitivities outside politics and business.
It is a sad episode as fas as the Beeb is concerned because the basic Beeb stance is pro-science. Then along comes this episode and the Beeb somewhat distances itself from the mainstream of science. The same might be said of the The States.
Finally, the British media diverted attention from the burden of the last prog into an argument about some supposed Arctic shots actually mocked up in Europe. So the point about c.c. got quite lost.
