The companies that sell dirt-cheap ink jet printers are not in the business of selling printers, they're in the business of selling INK. So they put those chips on the cartridges making it difficult to refill them and still get them to work. I use PrintCountry.com and get some pretty good prices on generic cartridges with chips. When my son went to college I told him I was out of the ink just business and bought him an inexpensive laser printer, wireless, it'll do the job that needs doing.
