Guest - I would say that the inlay isn't intended as a maker's mark, but is rather a simple piece of decoration. A diamond shape being one of the easiest ones to cut in mother-of-pearl, or similar shell. It is fairly typical of banjo neck inlay, often used as one of the fret position marks.
You are much more likely to find a maker's name, or brand number stamped into the wood at the heel, or on a "perch pole" which connects the neck through the drum.
Quack!
