Very popular in Devon folk clubs in the 1960's, where it was definitely Nigger Draw Near. Remember The Yetties singing it - its even on one of their videos made in the 1980's. The Journeymen , residents at The Jolly Porter in Exeter used to sing it.

I suppose with the coming of political correctness, the racial composition of England's population changing - it became more unacceptable.
