Some years ago I was on a train from Grantham to Boston (UK). There were plenty of seats but at some rural stop a person in a huge parka and unlaced boots got on and sat opposite me. The smell of something like dead fish was awful and he/she played Dr. Hook's Gretaest hits at full volume on a Walkman. The last straw came when he/she blew his/her nose into his/her hand with predictable results. I finally got up and moved as he/she looked at ME curiously.
I have always tried to be kind and tolerant of eye contact etc with strangers but there is/was a limit.
