I feel certain that Jimmy Dean and his wife, Donna wrote a song about Afton, (as in Afton Mountain in Virginia,) but cannot locate a source for the lyrics. Good song, though that might have been worthy of including. They wrote it at about the same time as they were trying to write a new "State Song" during the drive to replace "Carry Me Back to Olde Virginia" (which was never officially chosen anyway). Although it sounds a bit schmaltzy, IMHO, it was a finalist in the competition for the new "State Song". However, the legislature dropped the entire issue eventually and not unlike their current federal counterparts, decided to not decide.
