As someone who voices opinions based upon next to no knowledge of the subject (Why Christianity "frowns" on Tarot cards for example) You qualify as a "faith based" person rather than a reason based one. Certainly allowing children to believe that ignorance based mockery is acceptable is as much child abuse as teaching them religion.
