NOTES FROM HOME
As sung by The Chapmans on "Notes from Home" (1999)

1. An old man was crying and I couldn't help but stop,
So I sat down beside him on a bench there in the park.
I could see the years of loneliness in the lines on his face.
I couldn't help but notice his tattered old suitcase.

2. He said, "I left as a young man." He said, "It wouldn't take me long
To show the world how strong I was; now the years have proved me wrong.
In that empty house across the street is the place from where I roamed.
That's where I found this old suitcase full of notes from home.

CHORUS: "Notes from home, from my family,
Lights from the heart that I never did receive.
I thought that I could make it on my own.
Now I'm all alone with just these notes from home.

3. "My fam'ly's love was stronger than my foolish pride.
I never told them where I was, but still they had to write."
He said, "I worked in the mills, the fact'ries and the docks.
The years just disappeared like the seconds on the clock.
All the memories I never had are here with me today,
In this old worn-out suitcase; they can never slip away.

CHORUS
"Yes, I'm all alone with just these notes from home."
