Thread Name: Cannery/Fish Processing songs
Subject: RE: Cannery/Fish Processing songs
Getting more interesting, especially as it ties in the fish cultures here and there..would love to find a song or two fromA Japan, Russia, Iceland etc. Also, many of them are about women doing some of this work.

Why didn't I thihnk in terms of the fish flakes in Newfoundland. I have a song that mentions them. Here it is..sappy but oh well..

From oceans of distance my memory returns
To a youth spent with lminkes and puffins and terns
I was born on this rock and cradled in ice
And the place that I come from was called Paradise

Paradise in the spring paradise in the fall
At this time of my life it's the best place of all

And then I grew older from girl into maide
Hurry up hurry up boys unless you're afraid
Thyere was one I set eyes on one frosty cold n ight
And our first habitation was in Heart's Delight

Heart's delight i n the spring heart's delight in the fall
At this time of my life it's the best place of all

We knew pretty well what the future would bring
The flakes in the summer the floes in the spring
And the years rolled upon us and the years were well spent
And the place where we settled was called Heart's Content

Heart's content in the spring heart's content in the fall
At this time of my life it's the best place of all

For I was the bay girl and he the bay boy
And he filled mjy whole life with kinship and joy
And now he is gone and I'm burdened with care
And the place I am going is called Bay Despair

Bay Despair in the spring Bay Despair (point of spear in French)
in the fall
At this time of my life it's the best place of all
And the place
