Thread Name: Lyrics to 'The Sky of the Southern Cross'??
Subject: Lyr Add: THE SKY OF THE SOUTHERN CROSS
THE SKY OF THE SOUTHERN CROSS
As sung by Judy Small on "Home Front" (1998)

1. The North Star's in the sky tonight; the air is still and clear,
And the music's wafting over me as I lie resting here.
It's freezing in December; the ground is thick with frost,
And I'm feeling kind o' homesick for the sky of the Southern Cross.

2. It's a true enough cliché that home is where you hang your heart,
And it seems to shine the brighter when you're miles and time apart.
Your accent starts to thicken and you're feeling kind o' lost,
And you get all sentimental for the sky of the Southern Cross.

BRIDGE: Some will tell you love of country lies in stemming migrant tides,
Or in strong defense against some foreign foe,
Or the cricket teams and sailing ships are cause for national pride,
But it's never one of these that stirs my soul.

3. There are pictures in my mind of hills of blue and purple haze,
And the city skylines gaunt against the dawn of winter days,
And the blazing golden sunsets that leave me at a loss,
And the diamond-studded sky that is the home of the Southern Cross.

REPEAT FIRST VERSE.
