Mick, I have nothing against Coogan at all, sorry If I gave that impression, I like to read different opinions to try and get a clearer picture. I am still undecided after reading many books on Collins, who I consider one of the greatest Irishmen of all time but The truth of what happened that day at Bealnablath has never been fully disclosed. With the passing of time more and more records are being made available for study and this is where many researchers are going to get details of this period. I was surprised and upset to say the least when (according to O'Cuinneagain) that it may have been Emmet Dalton who fired the shot that killed Collins. Dalton was in the front seat with Collins on the trip through Cork and was the first to reach him after he was shot, he also implies that Dalton may have been in the employ of the British from the start. The loyalty of Kevin Higgins and Tim Healy also comes under close scrutiny in the book. I dont believe this mystery will ever be solved, maybe as more and more records are made public, the truth may shine through. Believe me, I have the greatest rspect for Coogan.By the way - the book was first published by the author in August 1992 and printed by Ronan Press.
