Indeed, Ray ~ "Dennis from Grunty Fen". Pete Sayers, who lived in nearby Newmarket, took the name from a stretch of land just south of Ely, between the villages of Witchford and Haddenham [which is where I happen to live]. When he was Liberal MP for The Isle Of Ely, the late Clement Freud used often to win, at Newmarket and elsewhere, with a horse called Grunty Fen.
