I fish the Hauraki Gulf, the water off one side of Auckland, NZ. My most memorable incident was fishing alone in my 14" alloy boat when a pod of orca started feeding around me. They were only interested in eating stingray, but it wasn't a comfortable feeling, being anchored in a small open boat with them sounding around me, and tossing stingray as big as dining tables about.
I reeled in my tackle and sat in the bottom of the boat until they went away.
Never fished in that spot since. I don't want to hook stingray.
