The stability of the Canadian banks, by the way, is something we owe to Paul Martin, not Steven Harper. Paul Martin resisted a corporate-sponsored push to de-regulate Canadian banks during the brief time he was prime minister. He didn't allow that de-regulation to occur, and it is to him we owe our thanks that our national banking system has remained healthy and viable when the others around it did not.

Harper has falsely claimed credit for what he had nothing to do with, and what he would have prevented if he'd had the chance. He WOULD have de-regulated our banks, because that's standard rightwing robber baron policy. It enriches the very rich at the very top. It destroys the financial base of the rest of society.
