Thread Name: Folklore: Manuel Trazazas Gonzaullas
Subject: Folklore: Manuel Trazazas Gonzaullas
I have been doing some reading about MT "Lonewolf" Gonzaullas (July 4, 1891 – February 13, 1977) with the intention of writing a song about him.

He was a Texas Ranger for part of his life and when the town of Kilgore, Texas requested assistance from the Rangers because it was suffering riots and unruly behaviour from citizens who drank and gambled, he was sent to straighten things out. The town representatives saw just him show up and somewhat crestfallen they asked if he'd come alone. He is supposed to have replied, "One riot, one Ranger."

He was the son of a Spanish father and a Canadian mother, both naturalized Americans. There are other spellings of his family name; however, The Texas Ranger Hall of Fame shows it as spelled above.

Are there folklorists here who might know more about him? I can access the various on-line stuff, but so far I have been unable to locate any songs about him.

I appeal here to Don Firth, Art Thieme, Joe Offer, Mark Ross, Kendall Morse, Al Whittle, Laurel Paulson-Pierce, Maggie Dwyer, Mick Lane, Jed Marum (no slight intended to any Mudcatters whom I have not mentioned) and others who have a depth of knowledge about American folk music. If there are songs, I would like to read/hear them because I don't want to duplicate/steal the work of others. Also, I would like to avoid 'jingoism' in presenting the man; he had faults for sure, but that he had intestinal fortitude is evident.

Any help much appreciated.
