Thread Name: folk song a week/day/month
Subject: RE: folk song a week/day/month
Actually, it was the great Alan 'Cynic' Davidson of Kitchen Cynics who started it off with his folk song a day a few years before Jon Boden anyway. Whatever - people use the Internet as note-book media & virtual singaround which reflects the democratic availability of webspace - be it using blogs, facebook, Myspace, YouTube (or U-tube as Mudcatters oft refer to it) Soundcloud or whatever. Mudcatters Dick Miles & MtheGM use YouTube to greaf effect, but it takes bursts of occasional diligence to maintain the indignation. There's a great levelling here of course, but generally, on Mudcat, such threads tend to be assiduosly ignored for reasons which aren't too clear.

Do people post for praise or open criticism? Does it bother them? Would people rather say nothing than say something negative - however so constructive? Do we need an on-line Critics Group? On Facebook I find it telling that whilst you can LIKE something, you can't DISLIKE it - though you can UNLIKE it once you've LIKED it which is maybe the same thing. The Folk Kitchen has always been a friendly & encouraging place to be and I doubt I'd be singing now if it wasn't. That this doesn't happen on Mudcat is a little odd really...
