The coachman stretched out a despairing hand........willing her to see him,to feel his longing for her to rise and run....with bleak eyes he watched the ground around her begin to tremble and shiver. He started down from the coach with a heart-rending cry, to be jerked back, like a whipped dog on a chain, as a voice, cold as charity and old as time itself whispered, "STOP!".
