They knew how to make manufactured bands in those days ... Their songs were written by some very good writers, which as one of he things that made the Monkees so good. They worked so well a a team, too; they were all completely barmy, which was very appealing to a teenager in the 60's. Either modern made-up bands are rubbish, or I grew up when I wasn't looking.
