Eric Edwards wrote the song. He performed under the name Alberta Slim and his friend and mentor Wilf Carter performed under the name Montana Slim. Wilf was born and raised in Nova Scotia but Alberta was his home for much of his adult life. They wrote and sang similar songs and it is little doubt that they are often confused!
