Mid-Cheshire version circa 1940 went as follows:-

THE WIND BLOWS HIGH

The rain comes clatterin' down the sky,
She is handsome, she is pretty,

She is a-courting one two three,
Please will you tell us who is he?

Johnny Kelly says he loves her,
All the boys are fighting for her,
Let the boys go as they will,
But it's Johnny Kelly she loves still.
He takes her in the garden and sits her on his knee
And says 'My dear, will you marry me?'
She says 'Tomorrow!' but he says 'Today!'
So they both take their horses and ride far away.
