"It was written by an American and became a hit for a Canadian band!" The band may have been formed in Canada but they, or at least most of them, seem to have been Irish emigrants. You don't necessarily stop being Irish, or whatever, just because you move to another country. Saying that I get the point about the song. It is American. The original poster asked for something with an Irish feel and I imagine there are plenty of actual Irish songs with that. Someone suggested "I'll Tell Me Ma" which would be good.
