I read once (sorry, but I don't remember the book's title) that it could just possibly be that not all the murders were by the same person, as the modus operandi were different. Also, I believe Prince Eddie (Edward VII's eldest son) although rather a decadent chap, was at Balmoral and various other well-documented places while many of the murders were committed.
