As a pre-teenager, I read some Dickens, but nowadays I don't think that I could. That Victorian language! Even books that I enjoyed once that were written at that time are too heavy going.
Age, and getting used to the simplification of the language, I assume. I've found florid English harder to stomach as I've aged.
