I just found this thread. I am the author of Former Enemies. The American who told the story at the Arizona that day, died a couple of years ago. I was in a store in Portland, Maine about a month ago. The manager looked very familiar. I asked his name. He was the son of the story teller that day. I told the son about that day. He had never heard his dad tell that story. He said his dad never spoke of the war. I am honored to have heard his tale told, and to have witnessed reconciliation that makes me cry every time I think of it. Thank you all for your thoughts in this thread. Gratefully, Rev.
