Anywho, what I said was, thanks, Kat -- sounds like good stuff. Dr. Blitzer (and I, too) think the bone will heal reasonably well. Tom heals well. But his circulation is really bad in his legs, so he's concerned about the surgical wound healing.

Talked to Tom's nurse, Lynne, about 3 p.m. He was resting (sleeping at the time), but had been awake and wasn't in pain. (Drugged to the gills, I'm sure.) She suggested that if I wanted to talk to him, I wait until about 8-ish. And not come to see him until tomorrow after he's thrown off some more of the anesthesia, etc. (Even after a nap, I'd be dangerous on the road right now.)
