Given that the Roman Empire crumbled around 1600 years ago and that the differences between ancient Latin and modern Italian will be wider far than the gap between Modern and Middle English, it seems unlikely that anyone living today has the slightest idea of how it should be correctly pronounced.

Even in the fifty years since I finished my schooldays, the pronunciation I was taught is now apparently out of date.
