But if individual governments were to take the matter seriously, then extradition would be unnecessary. The only reason that it is a problem because Governments let their own citizens get away with it.

The ideal solution would be for governments to deal with the problems on their own soil. But as they fail to do that, then it leaves extradition the only solution.

I am sure that the US Government would have been only too happy to have had The British Government deal fairly with the case.
