awhile back, I was watching a documentary that included a segment on the Yellow River and I got to listen to a Chinese "shantyman" leading a group of rivermen who had to tow cargo barges thru really treacherous terrain... no donkeys or mules... just men who were at risk of falling & being lost in the river.
