Many of the Irish in what is now Canada settled in Newfoundland before it was part of Canada. There is an RTE audio-only documentary about the subject. There's also a web page called Newfoundland: The Most Irish Place Outside of Ireland. Kenneth Peacock's "Songs of the Newfoundland Outports" includes some songs in Gaelic, but I don't know whether they're Scots or Irish, not whether any were composed there.
