Thread Name: BS: Santorum drops out of race
Subject: RE: BS: Santorum drops out of race
I've tried manfully to resist being drawn into these endless and pointless political threads--but this is just too tempting.
"Good riddance to another nutter", etc. Do none of you think?
Perhaps the poster is incapable of strategic thinking--or perhaps incapable of anything beyond jerking a knee.
As should be obvious, Santorum would have been a much weaker opponent for President Obama than Romney will be--especially since the election is likely to turn on the price of gas or some other economic aspect, rather than Santorum's "social issues";.
Even if Santorum had stayed in the race but still not become the GOP nominee, that would have helped Obama, since the friction between Romney and the ultra- conservative wing of the GOP would have continued. What you want, if you think about it at all, is maximum bitterness towards Romney by "Tea Party" adherents etc--with the devoutly- wished-for outcome that conservatives stay home in the fall.
So sorry that no Dennis (Kucinich) ex machina is likely to rescue the "progressive" cause from the abominably moderate Obama. In fact you ought to be careful what you wish for. Outside Mudcat, Dennis is a one-way ticket to electoral oblivion.
