Thread Name: Lyr Add: Hernando's Hideaway (and parody)
Subject: RE: Lyr Add: Hernando's Hideaway (and parody)
Many rugby songs took the tunes of hymns and fitted dirty words to them: back around 1970 there was one that was only two verses, but we strung it out a bit. First we sang Verse 1 to the hymn tune OLD HUNDREDTH (All people that on earth do dwell, etc), then repeatED it to the tune of Hernando's Hideaway, then did extravagant la-la-las (or was it da-da-das) to the bridge of HH, then repeated the whole process for Verse 2. Hardly epic poetry, but ne'er mind, eh? It went thus:

As I was walking through a wood
I shat myself: I knew I would.
I cried for help but no help came,
And so I shat myself again.

As I was walking by St Paul's
A lady grabbed me by the balls.
I cried for help but no help came,
And so she grabbed my balls again.
