Thread Name: Songbook Index: Jean-Edel Berthier's '1000 chants'
Subject: Berthier Songbook Index
This is a project that Q and Monique are working on. I'll let them post an explanation. The first part of the index will follow on the next post.
-Joe-
Here's an explanation from Monique:Berthier published three "1000 chants" songbooks now out of print and this is the index for book one if you decide that all the titles of the books be published.
Most of the songs are from France whether or not the original language was French but there are also songs from elsewhere, almost all of them with some French lyrics, many of them with some of the original lyrics (some being transposed into French spelling).
Note that the French lyrics to foreign songs are not a French translation of the original lyrics and may be totally different; the tune can have been altered to fit the lyrics too. So let's say that the Fr versions of foreign songs doesn't present any interest to anybody except for French speakers who would like to still sing the tune with lyrics they can understand.
The books are interesting because all songs have a score.
I haven't checked all the authors' lives span so that people know whether it's still © material or not. Sure that Brassens' and Francine Cockenpot's songs are -it's why I added "©" besides their names- and I think that many Fr lyrics to foreign songs or sanitized versions are too but I don't think that people will use them anyway.
