G'day, Just to get some of the details of Van Diemen's land correct, Anthony van Diemen (note the spelling) was the Governor-General of the Dutch East Indies when the Dutch navigator Abel Tasman Discovered Tasmania in 1642. He named it VDL after the G-G, but it was known unofficially as Tasmania from at least 1823, and officially from 1856.Also note the link between Tasmania and Sir John Franklin (see recent thread).
