Thread Name: ADD: The Wind & the Waves by Matt Woolley
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Peter Hicks + tolpuddle song
Thanks very much,Peter, for the corrections. Great performance by The Devil's Own singing this song at Palmerston North in New Zealand !
And if anyone else wants to hear this song, then in Youtube's search box enter "Grassroots Union Choir of Tasmania' - the fastest way to find it. The Tolpuddle Martyr Festival mentioned in the Union Choir's website sounds very interesting too, as was the story of George Loveless (transported to Australia)and the other Toll Puddle Martyrs.
Amended lyrics version now below.

The Wind and The Waves   by Matt Woolley

Farewell to my native shore
I'm leaving you today
Farewell to the woman that I adore
Van Diemen's Land awaits me

Love and home lie to the rear
I'm leaving you today
The 'William Metcalf' is so drear
Van Diemen's land awaits me

CHORUS: Oh the wind and the waves,
        The deep oceans swell
        The winds are of change
        And the waves are farewell

Now my lot is five foot square
I'm leaving you today
Five men my misery to share
Van Diemen's Land awaits me

Blessed relief I've time on deck
I'm leaving you today
Clinking chains keep us in check
Van Diemen's Land awaits me

CHORUS

God's wonders are on display
I'm leaving you today
Turtle whales and dolphins play
Van Diemen's Land awaits me

On the Roaring Forties albatross glide
I'm leaving you today
Creation's joy leaves me inspired
Van Diemen's Land awaits me

CHORUS

One hundred days and still twelve more
I'm leaving you today
Finally we sight Van Diemen's shore
Van Diemen's Land awaits me

River runs from mountain pass
I'm leaving you today
Sullivan's Cove, my journey's nigh
Van Diemen's Land awaits me

CHORUS x 2
