May I register ~ if not exactly an objection to, then a certain feeling of discomfort about ~ the tone manifested in the title of this thread? Ambassadors may have done all sorts of other jobs before joining their nations' diplomatic corps: I fail to see what relevance this might have to the efficiency or acceptability of the manner in which they discharge the duties of the office when appointed to it by their governments.
