Thread Name: Tech: Embedding MIDI in a blog
Subject: Tech: Embedding MIDI in a blog
I'd like to embed MIDI files in a blog--with a console, so visitors can choose whether to hear the clip or not. And I know the usual <embed> code to do this, and know of a couple blog sites that allow it. But I face a few problems:

1. One has to put the MIDI files up on the web where they can be easily linked to as MIDI files. I currently have no hosted web site, so I need to know which free web storage sites provide links to shared files in a reasonably transparent form (preserving the file extension, at the least), and do not limit access to just downloads or opening the files through their own webapps. Ideally, I want a base link to a folder to which I can simply append the file name being referenced, as is done with hosted web sites.

2. The usual embed tag may cause Firefox to crash when the QuickTime plug-in is used. What is a more portable way to embed MIDI files with a console (or at least a play/stop button)?

MP3 files are an easier proposition, because there are many sites that will host your MP3 files and provide code for embedding a player on other web pages. But it's senseless to convert simple, compact MIDIs into bloated MP3 or (worse) WAV files.

Your suggestions greatly appreciated!
