Yes, but there are also a whole lot of "folk" songs that have no historical or socio/political themes. Check out tons of Irish "diddly i ay" songs. They've survived NOT because they relate some unforgettable issue, but because they are fun to sing. And there are lots of songs out there today that people may want to slag off on because they don't have this "archival" quality...but people take enjoyment in singing them. And sometimes that's all that matters.
